Chronic yeast infections happen when the microorganism candida has persistently developed and grown into uncontrollable number inside or outside the human body. Despite being inherent and harmless, candida or yeast can have an overgrowth and spread throughout the body due to certain circumstances.

Resistance to treatments or the fact that it has become a recurrent affliction are two circumstances of chronic yeast infections. Chronic yeast infection may either be an indication of a serious illness or can contribute to much worse diseases.

Chronic yeast infections or the systemic candidal disease, the yeast has already extended to large areas of the body and this causes death in three out of four afflicted persons. Oral yeast infection and genital yeast infection can come to a point when it is already causing other illnesses and is no longer responding to normal anti-fungal medications.

Diseases that weaken and attack the body’s immune system such as diabetes, cancer, leukemia or AIDS also could be causes of chronic yeast infection. If the immune system is weakened it may not have the ability to halt the spread and overgrowth of candida.

One of the outcomes of individuals with AIDS involves contracting chronic yeast infection in the esophagus. This then spreads to the entire gastro intestinal system. It can be very painful. People with yeast infections in their gastro intestinal system don’t absorb food and its nutrients which causes the body to weaken. Another entry point for chronic yeast infections could be cuts and wounds on the skin. The yeast enters the bloodstream and causes chronic yeast infection. It may also infect the brain which could affect mental functions.

Chronic yeast infections may cause memory loss, extreme mood swings, fatigue, and others.

Another form of chronic yeast infection is the chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis wherein rashes of yeast infection develop in the mouth, fingernails, scalp, and the extremities as well as on any part of the body. Rashes can look like scales, scabs, and lesions.

Constant appearances of thrush or chronic yeast infection is a common condition of individuals with either AIDS As the AIDS advances so does the body’s inability to handle yeast production. This is also a condition noticed in cancer patients. Cancer patients not only have to deal with the weakening of their immune system but radiation and chemotherapy can also lead to chronic yeast infection

The relationship between sugar and yeast is well known. It also complicates the lives of diabetics. Because of the high sugar content in their saliva, they are frequently very open to chronic yeast infection starting in the mouth. This condition isn’t just seen in the mouth and can be seen all over the body. It is known as diabetes mellitus.

Treat even superficial yeast infections properly or you could develop chronic yeast infections. Also once contracted, chronic yeast infections have a habit of reappearing. Infections require proper diagnosis from a health professional.
