Working out at the gym is of course the basis to build from if your intention is to gain a muscular body. However there are other aspects that are essential if you are to grow with ease, and if you feel like you’re doing most of it right, there might be an often overlooked aspect that your missing out on.
Sleep.
By giving your body a full nights sleep you give it the base it needs to be able to build stronger muscles. Examine your sleeping patterns; do you have a deep sleep or one that is light with interruptions? Is it easy for you to fall asleep or do you toss and turn for hours? Do you feel rested when you wake up or do you take hours to get going?
Sleep is so important to your muscle gain since it’s during this time that your body grows the most. Why do you think children sleep much more than adults? As sure as there are many reasons for that, they definitely grow more than adults and most of their growth is happening while sleeping.
When you’ve been asleep for about 40 minutes your level of growth hormones raises, and this includes the amount of testosterone which is on of the most important hormones for muscle growth. The growth hormones aids the process in which nutrition is being transformed into new muscular cells.
Without a proper deep sleep this process will fall behind since the body will be set on work-mode all the time, not being able to switch to the relax-mode where this all happens naturally.
If you find that you have problems going to sleep or having a light sleep, there are different things that can aid you in this. First of all, don’t stress out about it, if you’re worrying too much about not being able to sleep, this will be what really hinders you from falling asleep. Take your time in the evenings to wind down from all that has happened during the day, have some calming herbal tea, like chamomile or peppermint, or have a cup of warm milk.
There are many things you can do to wind down before going to bed; read a good book, listen to calming music and/or have some pleasant conversation with your partner or a friend. You can also try some relaxing exercises, such as hypnosis. Do what feels right for you.
For the body to be able to build you want to give it some energy not too far before going to bed. However it’s good to give the body at least one hour after your last meal before you go to bed for the body to be able to digest it properly. This will make the quality of your sleep higher. The meals you’re having in the evenings should include a good amount of protein for your body to have the ability to use it for the muscle building process.
Find ways that works for you. By taking sleeping medication you might fall asleep easier, but it actually makes the sleep less deep and if you’re taking it every night your body will adjust to it and there’s even a risk of getting dependent on them.
Just find the ways that work for you to relax deeply and your body will naturally be able to go into the sleeping state. Give your body the opportunity to do the work that it knows so well how to do. All you need is a good rest and the results come naturally.
