A Number Of Ideas On How To Prevent Bed Bugs

August 1st, 2010 · No Comments

Bed bugs can actually be a real problem. While they are fairly rare, once they do get into your house they can be very hard to get rid of. As a result of this, the old phrase ‘prevention is better than cure’ really does ring true, and there are a number of things that you should be doing in order to prevent bedbugs from appearing in your home in the first place.

Make sure that you inspect everywhere in your home that is warm, close to human contact, and has plenty of hiding spaces. This will include things like mattresses, sofas, pillows, carpeting, as well as behind dressers and chairs.

If you do suspect any piece of furniture or any area of your home with having bedbugs then it is a good idea to use an insecticide in order to get rid of them. A simple spray insecticide should be sufficient to get rid of them on the surface, but you may need to use insecticide dust to complete the job if they are in little hiding places.

You should consider getting rid of any old piece of furniture that have a high infestation of bedbugs, or furniture that you might consider to be at risk of developing and infestation. If you think that any old sofa or chair is going to be a prime target for these little critters, then it may be best to simply get rid of it altogether.

You should also go around the house and cover all of the mattresses that you have with plastic, placing the sheets and bedding on top of this. If there are any bedbugs already residing within the mattress then covering them with plastic will prevent them from getting out. If the bedbugs have yet to arrive, then they will be unable to interest the mattress if the plastic is covering it. Either way, this is a great way of preventing any infestations in your bed.

You should also go around the house and conduct a thorough clean in certain areas on a regular basis as well. You should be cleaning any pieces of furniture that you suspect of having bedbugs, and should also make sure that you are constantly washing bedding, pillow cases, clothing, curtains, and anything else that may be susceptible to these little critters as well.

Finally, if you do find that all of your actions fail to actually prevent bedbugs from appearing, simply call in the exterminator in order to get rid of them once and for all. Once they are all gone then your preventative measures should have more of an effect.
